Michael Browne is the Chief Executive Officer at and an original co-founder of Crowdhelix - A UK and Ireland-based open Innovation platform that forges links between an international network of excellent researchers and innovating companies, so that they can plan, deliver, and exploit pioneering collaborative projects and value chains. Michael's main focus at Crowdhelix is driving the company to become a sector-leading open innovation network & technology platform connecting researchers and innovators to collaborate on large scale multi-disciplinary international projects tackling some of the world’s biggest societal, economic and industrial challenges. Michael's main area of responsibility while leading Crowdhelix is network reach, business growth & company performance.
Prior to his role leading Crowdhelix, Michael spent 15 years as Head of European Research & Innovation at University College London (UCL) one of the top-performing research-intensive universities in the world, and ranked as the top HEI collaborator in Europe under the Horizon 2020 programme. At UCL, Michael oversaw the award and delivery of more than 1,000 EU-funded projects, totalling more than £900 million.
During this time, Michael was also an advisor to the European Commission, EU13 Member States and Pre-Accession States on enhancing competitiveness in European research and innovation. He is a recognised high-level expert on the Horizon programmes mainly in the areas of impact and innovation management. A member of LERU ERP-C Steering Committee. A member of Universities UK Horizon 2020 Sounding Board and International Innovation Board. The author of various publications on Innovation Management and the European Research Area, and a recognised Horizon programme focused writer and evaluator.
