Northern Transylvania Clusters Consortium takes on the challenge of discussing, sharing and learning how to be sustainable while achieving performance. This year’s edition of TCIW will tackle the goal of striving to be competitive while also ensuring sustainability. Sustainable Business Performance is the main theme we invite you to debate during the conference.

Transylvanian Clusters International Conference, powered by Northern Transylvania Cluster Consortium, is growing into a week-long event, that will merge formal meetings with informal networking, innovation camp, roundtables, factory visits, research presentations, hands-on workshops and everything else that makes sense for the growth of SMEs, entrepreneurs, academics and innovators in our clusters ecosystem.

This year, the Transylvanian Cluster International Conference will host the first Cluster Collaboration Lab (C2Lab) organised by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform on behalf of the European Commission. The C2Lab is an interactive workshop to develop project roadmaps to define solutions to the most critical disruptions in European supply chains. It is open to companies, clusters, financial providers, actors from the civil society, and other interested entities. Please note that it requires a separate registration.

So far, the sixth previous editions of the conference have gathered over 1.200 participants from business, academia, research, public administration. We had more than 200 remarkable speakers and provided over 500 opportunities for connecting entrepreneurs and innovation providers around the world, during the integrated matchmaking sessions.

Matchmaking - How it works

1. Create your profile

Company profile = Summary

After the registration, make sure you fill in your company profile.

In the “My account” section - “Summary”, fill in relevant information about the entity you represent and about your offer/request.

Here you have the opportunity to:

- Explain the technology/product/expertise you are offering or looking for

- Specify the type of partner you are looking for

Select the most appropriate Tags, to indicate the type of entity you are working for, the field of activity and the type of collaboration you are looking for.

Don’t forget:

Your company profile should be in English, clear and relevant to the event.
Your profile should describe who you are, what you can offer potential partners and who you want to meet. It is your online business card!

2. Promotion of profiles

Your profile will be visible to the other participants in the “Virtual lobby” (“Networking”) and in the “Participants” section.

3. Select your bilateral meetings – from 30th of May 2022

Browse the list and profile of the participants.
Use the Tags to easily find the ones aligned with your goals.
Send meeting requests to those companies/persons you want to meet.
Adding a short reason why you are interested in a meeting will increase the acceptance.
Check every incoming meeting request via e-mail.
Once sent, a meeting request will be registered as accepted by both parts and the meeting scheduled in the agenda.
In this regard, you are kindly asked to check your agenda and reschedule the meetings, in case the initial planning doesn't suit your agenda.

4. Before the event - technical preparations

Check your audio quality, using headphones is highly advised.
Consider cutting your video, in case of broadband issues.

5. During the event

Check the latest version of your meeting’s agenda in “My agenda” – “Meetings”.
Start your virtual meetings, according to the schedule: “My agenda” – “Meetings”.
RESPECT the other participants' time and show up to all your meetings.
If an unforeseen circumstance arises and you will not attend a meeting, please cancel your meetings through the platform. This way, the other participant will be notified.

Participants at the on-site event:

You can have bilateral meetings with the participants present at the location of the event.
You can have online bilateral meetings with other participants, in the networking room set-up by the organisers.
The online meetings will take place on the platform of the event, via phone or your personal laptop.

Innovation Camp - Day 1

The event is organized by the Transilvania IT Cluster and will be a joint effort of partners involved to hold discussions and debates on relevant topics proposed by the ecosystem. FGOI - Business Opportunities - Round Table

The activity is organized within the FGOI project, driven by the Transylvanian Furniture Cluster, which involves a consortium of 8 European clusters, being co-funded by the COSME program of the European Union. Furniture Go International – FGOI – will help SMEs to reach new markets through collaboration and innovation. The project will establish a European Strategic Cluster Partnership to intensify cooperation in furniture and related industries, within the EU and towards four third countries, namely the USA, Canada, Egypt, and South Africa.

The participating clusters are the TFC-Transylvanian Furniture Cluster (Romania), HABIC-Association Cluster of Habitat, Wood, Office and Contract Sector (Spain), WIC-Wood Industry Cluster (Slovenia), KCN-Cluster of Czech Furniture Manufacturers (Czech Republic), ICS-Interior Cluster Sweden (Sweden), PWC-PRO WOOD Regional Cluster (Romania), BFC-Bulgarian Furniture Cluster (Bulgaria) and HCB-Habitat Cluster Barcelona (Spain). C2Lab: Develop your next project roadmap (1/2)

Do you have a great idea to solve current challenges in our European supply chains? Then come to the C2Lab! It is an interactive workshop organized by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform to find the right project partners and develop together the roadmap to make your joint project happen.

It is a two-day workshop for companies, cluster organizations, financial providers, actors from the civil society, and other interested entities with the aim to produce concrete outputs with and for the participants.

The plenary session at 10:00 is the beginning of the C2Lab. Then, on this first day of the C2Lab, we will explore funding opportunities for projects, have pitches from the participants, and create a working group. These working groups will be moderated by experts.

Seminar: “Your right to privacy online”

Data across the Internet is collected through digital technologies in websites and in apps (software programs on mobile devices). These technologies include cookies, and small text files placed on desktop computers, laptops, or smart devices (tablets, mobile phones) when you visit a page on the Internet. Cookies can include digital trackers, such as tracking the precise location of your device. App settings can have permissions to access your contacts, your camera, your messages, your microphone, and other data on your mobile devices. The location of a device can personally identify a person who uses or owns the device, so its tracking has data protection and privacy implications.

The main objective of this event is to informally educate the general public about online tracking technologies and how to turn them off. The seminar is organized by AgroTransilvania Cluster.

TFC Design, Prototyping & Testing Laboratory visit INTRIDE

The visit is organized within the INTRIDE project, aiming at the creation of a strong link and continuous interaction among HEIs (Higher Education Institutions), industry, and intermediaries by developing a joint curriculum of the designer with soft, digital, and green skills conceived as innovation triggers in activating innovation processes and managing the collaboration ecosystem. The objectives of the project are:

• Developing a Joint Master Degree program addressed to students (graduated or post graduated) or company employees for a multidisciplinary profile (designer + soft/digital/green skills) based on authentic teaching – training supplied directly by the company’s staff, thanks also to practical activities – on work-based learning.

• Stimulating HEIs offer modernization and adaptation to industry world needs / HE system getting closer to business needs, perspectives, and businesses benefiting from high-level competencies.

• Developing HE + industry community continuous interaction still through the creation of a community platform.

Within the TCIW event will be organized the final workshop to test the knowledge and competencies gained by students in the pilot action and this visit will be the start of the workshop. The product development workshop will be organized by the University of Arts and Design Cluj-Napoca in collaboration with Antares Romania and TFC and will bring together students and professors from Romania, Poland, Italy, and Spain. Workshop: “Solutions to reduce food losses and waste”

AgroTransilvania Cluster together with Transilvania IT Cluster, being part of Transilvania Digital Innovation Hub, will organize within the TCIW event a workshop in order to feature the partnership's proposed solutions that will help reduce waste and food losses along the supply chain. The Zero Waste (ZeroW) project aims to address the whole value chain of food loss and waste and to help the transition of current food systems toward halving Food Loss & Waste (FLW) by 2030 and reaching a near-zero level by 2050 through systemic innovation and policy recommendations. It takes a holistic approach to FLW reduction throughout the entire value chain, encompassing systemic and sustainable innovation, prevention technologies and strategies, policy recommendations, valorization, awareness-raising, information technologies, and data-driven decision-making.

Alin Ivan

With his passion for mathematics, Alin assists companies in making the best rational decisions based on specific figures. The main fields of expertise are business model transformation, internationalization, and innovation management. His driving quote is “ego cogito, ergo sum,” valid especially for companies that must be run on rational thinking, exact figures, and predictive actions.

Antonio Montalvo

Antonio Montalvo is Senior Project Manager at FundingBox Accelerator Sp Z.o.o. He is managing the Manufacturing Cluster, supervising 11 EU-funded projects where the digitization of manufacturing SMEs is the main focus.

Antonio is a Spanish Master’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering and MBA with more than 25 years of experience in business development, sales management, general management, and project management, both in the public and private sectors, having worked in Telecommunications, ICT, and Innovation & Technology sectors in different countries from Europe and America.

Antonio Novo

Antonio Novo is a cluster practitioner with a high degree of knowledge and experience in the promotion of business development through collaboration in innovation. His continuous implication in international clusters networks and projects allows him to understand the European Cluster map, the Commission priorities, and the main strategic challenges to afford in the future. He is the president of the European Clusters Alliance and the Spanish National Cluster Federation FENAEIC, as well as Vice-president of EUCLES. Antonio is a member of the European Clusters Expert Group and Alternate Delegate at the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI) of the European Economic and Social Committee.

During the last years, he has focused on Artificial Intelligence, managing directly very advanced projects applying AI to the industrial area. For his activities to fight the COVID-19 crisis, he received the EU Cluster Mobilization Award 2020 from the European Commission.

Cristian Virciu

Cristian Virciu has more than 7 years of experience in designing and building meaningful digital experiences across multiple industries and currently is Head of UX/UI Design at Wolfpack Digital. He puts quality and data-driven choices at the forefront of what he does.

Genoveva Christova - Murray

Genoveva Christova – Murray has a master’s degree in International Economic Relations, UNWE, Sofia, being the co-owner and managing director of the Ligna Group. Also, she is the president of the Bulgarian Furniture Cluster and an international cluster development expert organizing economic missions in Serbia, Croatia, Turkey, Romania, Georgia, and Ukraine. On the other hand, Genoveva is involved in the creative industries sector, being co-founder of the LIGNA CREATECH HUB/ MISSIA23, co-producer of Eurovision Bulgaria 2020 and 2021, Junior Eurovision 2021, and founder of Ligna Studios. In 2010, she received the Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the EU Commission.

Ioana Dragoș

Ioana Dragoș has 18 years of experience in regional development within the North-West Regional Development Agency, as project manager of several EU-funded projects. She is also an expert within Enterprise Europe Network, part of the Clusters Thematic Group and of the Creative Industries Sector Group, and a certified cluster benchmarking expert by the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis. Moreover, she works as an associated trainer in cluster management excellence, certified by the European Foundation for Cluster Excellence.

Matej Feguš

Matej Feguš has extensive experience with the development of innovative business models that create value for employees, the environment, and society. He is the owner of Donar d.o.o., one of the most acclaimed Slovenian furniture manufacturers, and a company that built a strong customer base with its world-class Slovenian designs, materials, and business ethics.

Donar has been awarded several international awards in the field of design and sustainability – RedDot design award winner, German Innovation award, EUIPO design finalist, Green Product winner 2018, Circular Design of the year 2019, and several others.

Matej brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in building relationships of trust with customers and a deep understanding of sustainable consumption patterns, with a focus on improving social interaction ad creating a cohesive community.

He was a part of the Strategy for Slovenia 2050 development group and his example in the business world earned him the CEED Global Entrepreneur of the year award in 2014.

Ruxandra Mercea

Ruxandra Mercea, CEO of Transylvania College, founder of the Trust School | Wellbeing Institute, and of the Spark Hybrid High School. She is an innovator in education and a systemic thinker, who changed the leadership paradigm at Transylvania College with a new philosophy focused on developing 4 pillars: academic, well-being, global education, and leadership. This new paradigm aims at the well-being of the whole school community: students, parents, and staff. Ruxandra is also one of the 30 Directors invited to be a member of the prestigious global association of schools, G30.

She believes that a country can progress and prosper only when (and if) education becomes a priority. That is why she is passionate about challenging the status quo and building the most effective school in Romania, where all children can find their voice, make a difference and discover their spark.

Tomasz Szulc, Ph.D. holds the degree in economics and management science. Specialist in urban logistics, mobility management and reverse logistics. Assistant professor in the Department of Logistics of the Silesian University of Technology and academic teacher and tutor in the WSB University in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Formerly employed by the Upper-Silesian Agency of Entrepreneurship and Development, currently cooperating with the Science and Technology Park in Gliwice and Technology Accelerator in Gliwice. Teacher in INTRIDE Erasmus+ project.

Ulla Engelmann

Ulla Engelmann is the Head of Unit for Industrial Forum, Alliances and Clusters within DG GROW, the Directorate General being responsible for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, at the European Commission. Her portfolio covers the work of the industrial forum, governance of industrial alliances, the organisation of the EU Industry Days, the management and coordination of networks such as EEN (Enterprise Europe Network), clusters and Erasmus for Young entrepreneurs.

In previous functions, she was responsible for Social Economy, Pact for Skills, women entrepreneurship and entrepreneurship education. She worked at the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the in-house science service of European Commission. She started in the JRC in Ispra (Italy) in 1993 as a post-doc in fusion research, and moved on to manage various units (communication, international relations, and others). Dr. Engelmann holds a PhD in analytical and radiochemistry completed at the National Research Centre in Karlsruhe.

Dr. Ali Muhammad

Dr. Ali Muhammad is the Head of the Robotics system at European Dynamics. He is the leader of DIH² - The Pan-European Network of Robotic DIHs for Agile Production, which is a unique and largest network of manufacturing with over 80 Digital Innovation Hubs covering 27 European countries. He is also leading Better Factory (Grow Your Manufacturing Business) project.”

Dr. Mohamed Talaat

He started his journey in the construction industry more than 25 years ago with the beginning of the foundation of Mohamed Talat Architects in 1999 and has accumulated experience in the field of architecture by supervising many outstanding projects in Egypt, the Middle East, and other countries from Africa. The journey of success can be translated through figures into more than 300 different projects between the administrative, commercial, hotel, and strong presence in Egypt's most important investment area in the last 10 years. It is the new administrative capital through 40 different project years between administrative and commercial and comes on top of it as one of the most important projects of the Grand Mosque of Egypt, which is the heart of the Islamic cultural center and the largest in terms of space in the Middle East after the holy mosque.

Govert Flint

Govert Flint studied for his Bachelor's degree at TU Delft Architecture and did his Master's at Design Academy Eindhoven. He is specialized in developing strategies for people-oriented innovation. With his studio Enrichers, he translates neuroscience into design concepts. Enrichers often works together with the University of Cambridge (UK). Enrichers has clients like Dutch Railways, Schiphol Airport, and Heineken for whom they developed concepts and methods to optimize the satisfaction of products and spaces. Enrichers has an active furniture collection. The Buoy is the most known desk stool of the collection. With the spin-off Institute for Applied Motions, Enrichers is working on smart furniture sensors detecting stress from the seat.

Silvana Sanfeliu Giaimo

Analyst and Project Manager at Fondazione Torino Wireless. She is the front-end of all relations with European and International contacts, having experience in coordination and support of knowhow and methodology transfer with other countries.

She has experience in business opportunity assessment (at regional, national and international level) and technological evaluation for enterprises innovation projects and products development. She also provides support and assistance to companies, universities, research institutes municipalities and other organisations interested in presenting projects to European, National and Regional calls for proposals.

She is the project manager of BRIDGE, an European co-funded project aimed to design an internationalisation strategy to support European Small and Medium Enterprises - SMEs - and start-ups working in AI and Blockchain).

She is in close contact with the companies within the 2 clusters coordinated by Torino Wireless: Piemonte’s ICT innovation cluster and the Italian Technology Cluster for Smart Communities. She is also an EEN member.

Studies: Electronic Engineering from the Universidad del Norte in Colombia and Master in e-business and ICT for Management from the Politecnico di Torino.

Tiberius Ignat

Tiberius Ignat is the Director of Scientific Knowledge Services, a company that specializes in helping research organizations to embrace new technologies and ways of working. He runs in partnership with UCL Press and LIBER Europe a successful series of workshops - Focus On Open Science, now in its 7th year. After being a long-time individual member of the European Association of Research Libraries (LIBER), he became a LIBER Associate through his company where he is now the vice-chair of the LIBER Citizen Science Working Group. Tiberius is a member of the European Citizen Science Association and Citizen Science Association (US) and a member of the Scientific Committee for OAI, the CERN - Geneva University Workshop on open science.

He was part of the organizing committee of the Sorbonne Declaration on Research Data Rights and is currently doing research on internet tracking in a project which involves citizen scientists.

He has a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from the University of Bucharest.

Bianca Muntean

Bianca Muntean is the manager of Transilvania IT Cluster, gold-labeled by ESCA, with over 20 years of experience in ecosystem development, and a member of the European Cluster Expert Group, coordinated by DG GROW, European Commission. She actively participates in various Advisory Boards focused on digital transformation at local, regional, national, and European levels. In 2019 she was awarded the title of EU Cluster Manager of the Year, and her work is focused on supporting cross-sectoral collaboration in Europe. Bianca is also the recipient of the Open Innovation Award in 2017, given by the European Commission and The Open Innovation Strategy and Policy Group. In December 2021, Bianca was appointed the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Estonia in Cluj-Napoca.
